The Los Angeles Rams successfully avoided a potential Matthew Stafford training camp holdout by increasing his compensation by $5 million in 2024 and guaranteeing him $4 million in 2025, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. These adjustments did not add any new salary for the Rams but were enough to satisfy the Super Bowl-winning quarterback and prevent any distractions during training camp.
Now that the details of Stafford’s deal have been revealed, how does it look?
The #Rams and QB Matthew Stafford have now agreed to terms on his adjusted contract, sources say, as he gets an additional $5M this year (money moved forward from a later contract year) and an additional $4M guaranteed roster bonus next year. https://t.co/gs4BPvTI2g

Stafford’s 2024 compensation has now increased to $36 million, making him tied with Daniel Jones for the 14th highest-paid quarterback. With an expected cap hit of $44.5 million, Stafford remains the third-highest paid quarterback in 2024, behind only Deshaun Watson and Dak Prescott.
In 2025, Stafford’s previous $6.5 million roster bonus has been replaced with a fully guaranteed $4 million bonus. It is unclear whether this $4 million is new money or part of the original $6.5 million due in 2025.
Although Stafford’s base salary for 2025 is $27 million, none of it is guaranteed. This means the team could still decide to move on from Stafford next year if necessary, despite him being considered a relatively “cheap” quarterback compared to others receiving higher contracts.
