Red Sox reportedly had trade talks with Cubs for starting pitcher

The Boston Red Sox are currently tied for the final Wild Card spot in the American League with 65 games remaining in the regular season. As the MLB trade deadline looms, Boston is actively seeking to bolster their roster in order to make a strong push for the playoffs.

According to a report by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox have engaged in discussions with the Chicago Cubs regarding a potential trade for veteran starting pitcher Jameson Taillon. Nightengale noted that the Cubs are still undecided on their direction leading up to the deadline.

Jameson Taillon, a seasoned 32-year-old pitcher with nine years of experience in the league, has showcased impressive performance this season with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.161 WHIP, striking out 75 batters over 16 starts. His addition to the Red Sox rotation could prove invaluable, especially with key pitchers Lucas Giolito and Garrett Whitlock sidelined for the remainder of the season.

If Boston were to acquire Taillon, they would gain his services for the next two seasons, offering stability and depth to their pitching staff. The potential trade presents an opportunity for the Red Sox to fortify their roster at a reasonable cost as they aim to secure a postseason berth.
