The Boston Red Sox have been busy re-shaping their roster following the MLB trade deadline. In a series of moves before their game against the Seattle Mariners, the Red Sox made significant changes.
Among the transactions reported by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, the team designated reliever Yohan Ramirez for assignment, activated reliever Lucas Sims, optioned infielder Jamie Westbrook to Triple-A Worcester, and called up infielder Nick Sogard.
Ramirez, 29, recently joined Boston but struggled in his outing on Tuesday, giving up three runs in just over an inning of work. Westbrook, 29, had a tough stint with the Red Sox, hitting .150 with minimal offensive production.
Sims, 30, came to Boston from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Ovis Portes. With solid numbers this season, Sims adds depth to the Red Sox bullpen. Meanwhile, Sogard, 26, could make his MLB debut after an impressive performance in Triple-A Worcester, showcasing his offensive and defensive skills.
