Iga Swiatek has been the dominant force at Roland Garros for the past five years. However, the Olympics presented a unique challenge for her.

Despite her success at the French Open, Swiatek was defeated by China’s Zheng Qinwen in the women’s singles semifinals, ending her hopes of winning a gold medal.

Now, Swiatek will compete for the bronze medal against the loser of the other semifinal match.

Although Zheng was ranked No. 7 in the WTA rankings, she was considered an underdog with a 0-6 record against Swiatek. However, she managed to secure a historic victory, becoming the first Chinese tennis player to reach the Olympics final.

Swiatek struggled with unforced errors throughout the match, allowing Zheng to capitalize on her mistakes and secure the win.

Despite the unexpected outcome, Zheng’s victory marks a significant moment in Chinese tennis history as she is guaranteed to be the country’s first Olympic tennis medalist.
