As we approach the midway point between the conclusion of the NBA Finals and the beginning of training camp, most of the league’s offseason transactions have been finalized. While a few players like Tyus Jones, Luke Kennard, and Markelle Fultz are still unsigned, their impact on the championship race is expected to be minimal.

With that in mind, it’s time to assess the performance of each of the Eastern Conference’s 15 teams. Let’s dive in…

The Atlanta Hawks had a stroke of luck by securing the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, allowing them to select Risacher, a promising prospect who addresses a positional need on their roster. They also made some smart moves by trading away Murray and acquiring assets in return. Overall, their offseason moves deserve a solid grade of B.

The Boston Celtics made sure to keep their core intact by re-signing key players like Tatum and White. This continuity bodes well for their title defense, and the addition of Scheierman should provide some healthy competition. The Celtics’ long-term plans seem secure, earning them an impressive grade of A.

The Brooklyn Nets made a bold move by trading Bridges to the New York Knicks and initiating a two-year tanking period. While this decision may raise eyebrows, it shows a clear direction for the team post-Durant era. Their grade of B- reflects this calculated risk.

The Charlotte Hornets focused on youth by drafting Salaün and acquiring Green, while also securing their core players with long-term contracts. Their success will hinge on the development of these players under a new head coach, earning them a respectable grade of B-.

The Chicago Bulls took steps towards a rebuild by drafting promising players like Buzelis and Giddey. However, their failure to maximize value in trades and questionable signings lowered their grade to D+.

The Cleveland Cavaliers locked in Mitchell and Mobley as franchise cornerstones, but their roster redundancies remain a concern. The Cavaliers will need to address these issues to maximize their potential, resulting in a grade of B-.

The Detroit Pistons made several roster moves without a clear direction, leading to a grade of C-. While surrounding Cunningham with shooting is a positive, their defensive deficiencies and inflexible frontcourt raise questions about their long-term plans.

The Indiana Pacers made savvy moves by re-signing Siakam and Toppin while adding young talent like Furphy and Wiseman. Their patient approach and pursuit of a trade upgrade earned them a grade of C.

The Miami Heat lost key players like Martin and face uncertainties with Butler’s contract situation. Their grade of D+ reflects these challenges and the need to address roster gaps.

The Milwaukee Bucks made modest improvements by adding role players like Trent, Prince, and Wright. These additions should bolster their playoff rotation, resulting in a grade of B-.

The New York Knicks made significant moves by signing Anunoby and acquiring Bridges. These additions should strengthen their defensive wing duo and elevate the team’s performance, earning them a grade of A-.

The Orlando Magic added Caldwell-Pope to boost their defensive backcourt and made significant financial commitments to their core players. Their grade of B reflects their focus on shooting and potential for growth.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a splash by acquiring George and constructing a solid playoff rotation. While the pairing of George and Embiid raises concerns, their overall offseason moves deserve a grade of A.

The Toronto Raptors faced challenges with the departure of key players and questionable trades. Their lack of a clear direction resulted in a grade of D.

The Washington Wizards embraced a rebuild by acquiring young talent through the draft and adding experienced players like Brogdon and Valančiūnas to guide their youth. Their smart approach earned them a grade of B.

Overall, each Eastern Conference team made strategic moves to improve their roster and set the stage for the upcoming season. While some teams excelled in their offseason transactions, others face uncertainties and challenges moving forward.
