The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sought suggestions from IPL owners regarding proposed changes, with a meeting set to take place later this month at the BCCI office in Mumbai.
According to a report by Times of India, proposed changes include salary increments, extending the mega auction cycle to five years instead of three, and increasing the Right to Match (RTM) options to eight.
What can teams expect in terms of player purse at the IPL 2025 mega auction?
Franchises have suggested that player salaries bought at a certain price in the auction could see significant increments based on performance in upcoming seasons.
For instance, a player purchased for around 40 lakhs at the mega auction could see his value skyrocket to crores if he excels in the IPL 2025 season.
“The current system lacks provisions for salary increments for players post-auction. If a player is bought for Rs 30 lakh and performs exceptionally well, the franchise should have the option to offer him a fresh contract worth Rs 3 crore for the following year, preventing him from being poached by other teams,” an official told TOI.
“Allowing franchises to renegotiate the salary of high-performing players will enable teams to retain their top talent from the previous season without the risk of losing them to other teams. This benefits both players and franchises, ensuring player satisfaction and preventing poaching,” added the official.

Enhanced player purse for IPL 2025
Another suggestion proposed to IPL CEO Hemang Amin and BCCI officials is the increase in player purses for
“The salary cap for each team is expected to see a significant rise – from Rs 90 crores to approximately Rs 130-140 crores,” as per the TOI report.
“This update has been long overdue. The salary cap is likely to be increased from Rs 90 crores to Rs 130-140 crores. With the media rights agreement in 2002, IPL 2025 & 2026 will feature 84 matches, while IPL 2027 will include 94 matches. This translates to more matches with shorter intervals, leading players to demand and anticipate higher salaries,” the source explained.
The final decision on these proposed changes will be made following the upcoming meeting between BCCI officials and franchise owners at the end of the month.
