Head coach Dave Canales has made a significant announcement regarding the retirement of running back Rashaad Penny. After being signed by the Carolina Panthers in May, Penny brought potential and familiarity to the team, having previously worked with Canales during their time with the Seattle Seahawks.
Penny, a six-year veteran in the NFL, faced challenges in his career due to injuries, including tearing his ACL in his rookie season and breaking his fibula in 2022. Despite his setbacks, he only played in three games and carried the ball 11 times after his injury.
With Penny’s retirement, the Panthers’ running back lineup now includes Raheem Blackshear, Mike Boone, Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders, and Jaden Shirden. Hubbard and Sanders are currently competing for playing time, while Blackshear, Boone, and Shirden are vying for roster spots.
