Liverpool has reached an agreement to transfer midfielder Fabio Carvalho to Brentford for approximately £20m, according to reports.
Despite struggling on loan at RB Leipzig in the first half of last season, Carvalho impressed with nine goals in 20 matches for Hull City in the Championship. He continued his good form with goals against Arsenal and Manchester United in pre-season.
Southampton’s £15m bid was turned down earlier this summer, but A Bola was the first to report the agreement to sell Carvalho to Brentford.
This news was corroborated by Fabrizio Romano, who mentioned that Brentford will initially pay £20m for Carvalho. Additional clauses could potentially increase the total amount to £27.5m in the future, with a 17.5% sell-on clause also included.
Former club Fulham will receive 17.5% of any profit above £5m.
Carvalho is being offered a five-year contract and is expected to undergo a medical with Brentford before finalizing the deal.
Reports suggest that Liverpool’s new manager Arne Slot was impressed by Carvalho’s performances over the summer. However, it was always going to be challenging for the 21-year-old to secure a significant role this season.
Liverpool has depth in both midfield and attack, with the return of international players like Alexis Mac Allister likely to limit Carvalho’s playing time if he stayed at the club.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is still interested in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Real Sociedad is trying to persuade Zubimendi to sign a new contract and reject Liverpool’s offer as the club has not yet triggered the midfielder’s £51m release clause.
