Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates has experienced a meteoric rise to stardom.
From winning the 2023 College World Series to becoming the number-one pick in the MLB Draft, to starting the All-Star Game after just 11 big-league starts, Skenes seems unstoppable.
In July, Skenes excelled, boasting a 1.59 ERA in four starts and holding opposing hitters to a .137 batting average. He also achieved 100 career strikeouts in just his 13th start, joining an elite group of pitchers.
Adding to his accolades, Skenes was recently awarded the “Pitch Hand” honor on MLB Network. Host Dan O’Dowd praised Skenes as the best pitching prospect in draft history.
The Pitch Hand is a monthly award given to the pitcher who demonstrates exceptional skill. Skenes joins a prestigious list of recipients this season.
While national recognition is gratifying, Skenes’ ultimate goal is to help the Pirates secure a playoff spot, as they currently sit 2.5 games out of Wild Card contention with 54 games remaining.
