Joilton Lutterbach has come clean about using performance-enhancing drugs before his last-minute opportunity with the UFC, and is now facing the consequences of his actions.
Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) recently announced that Lutterbach has accepted a 24-month suspension for breaching the UFC’s anti-doping policy. The test results came back positive on June 8, just two weeks before Lutterbach was scheduled to fight Shara Magomedov at UFC Saudi Arabia.
Lutterbach tested positive for the presence of a banned substance, which is a metabolite of an anabolic steroid. The 31-year-old fighter confessed to using the prohibited substance extensively before signing with the UFC. Due to his failure to disclose this information beforehand, Lutterbach received a harsher penalty.
As a result of the failed drug test and his admission, Lutterbach’s UFC contract has been terminated. He also addressed the issue on social media after being pulled from the fight card.
In a statement, Lutterbach mentioned, “I used performance-enhancing drugs three months ago without knowing that I would join the UFC. I could have avoided detection by hiding or fleeing to countries with less stringent testing, but I chose to take the risk and believed I was clean and ready to compete.”
Lutterbach will be eligible to compete again on June 23, 2026.
