Both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia (CA) have expressed their enthusiasm for the extended series. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah emphasized the importance of upholding the legacy of test cricket.
“Extending the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to five Tests in partnership with Cricket Australia underscores our dedication to enhancing the significance of test cricket,” stated Jay Shah.
CA Chairman Mike Baird echoed similar sentiments, expressing delight over the extension of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to a five-Test series.
“We are thrilled about the extension of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to five Tests, given the intense rivalry between our nations and the excitement it generates,” said Mike Baird.
India’s Last 5-Test Series Against Australia
The last time India engaged in a 5-Test series against Australia was during their 1991-92 tour. Since then, the teams have mostly competed in 4-test series.
The 1991/92 series witnessed Australia’s dominance, winning 4 tests and drawing 1, resulting in a 4-0 series victory.

Test Venues for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25
As per reports from Australian media, the series will kick off in Perth, followed by matches in Adelaide and Brisbane. The iconic Boxing Day Test will be held in Melbourne, with the series concluding with the New Year’s Test in Sydney.
The series is set to commence on November 22, with the final test starting on January 3, 2025. The Adelaide Test will be the sole day/night fixture in the series.
