Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow is heading to the injured list for the second time in just over five weeks. Glasnow, 30, has been placed on the 15-day IL with elbow tendonitis, a recurring issue after previously being sidelined with back tightness. Despite the setbacks, Glasnow has had a strong season with 168 strikeouts in 134 innings, boasting a career-high 3.49 ERA and a 9-6 record in 22 starts.
To fill Glasnow’s roster spot, Justin Wrobleski has been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Wrobleski, a left-hander, made four starts earlier in the season with a 4.04 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 20 innings. Bobby Miller is expected to start in place of Glasnow, with Miller having an 8.07 ERA in seven starts this season.
Despite the injury woes, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided some optimism by stating that Glasnow’s MRI revealed no structural damage, and he is expected to return after the 15-day IL stint. The Dodgers’ pitching staff has been plagued by injuries this season, with several key players undergoing season-ending surgeries or dealing with various ailments.
Walker Buehler recently returned from the IL, although he struggled in his comeback outing. The team is also monitoring the progress of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who threw a simulated game on Friday. Additionally, Ryan Brasier and Connor Brogdon are gearing up for minor-league rehab assignments, while Brusdar Graterol and Blake Treinen are nursing injuries.
Despite the challenges, the Dodgers remain in a tight race in the NL West, currently holding a two-game lead over the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks. The team will need to navigate through the pitching injuries to maintain their position atop the division standings.
