Sri Lankan Cricket Team Concerned About Security in England
The Sri Lankan cricket team has raised concerns about the security situation in England amidst ongoing anti-immigrant riots. The team has communicated their worries to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), who have assured them of the security measures in place.
Sri Lanka Players Worried Ahead of England Test Series
Some Sri Lankan players and support staff currently in England for pre-series training have expressed their concerns about the unrest. They have requested additional security measures as their current stay in England is not covered by the official security plan.
“Most of the issues seem not to be close to where we are, but everyone is still a little concerned. We can’t really go out to dinner or do anything like that. Mostly we stay in the hotel. No one wants to run into trouble and get beaten up,” a Sri Lankan player in England shared.
Reassurances from ECB and UK Government
Sri Lanka’s team manager, Mahinda Halangoda, has been in touch with the ECB regarding the security concerns. The ECB has provided comprehensive security arrangements and will have a security liaison for the tour. The UK government has also assured all sporting bodies of the country’s safety for sports events.
Upcoming Test Series Schedule
The main Sri Lankan squad is expected to arrive in England for the three-match Test series, starting on August 21 in Manchester. The series will continue with matches at Lord’s on August 29 and The Oval on September 6. Despite the unrest, the ECB and UK authorities are confident in the security measures for the series.
