Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell announced on Monday that rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy is experiencing “routine” knee soreness following Saturday’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. O’Connell mentioned that McCarthy could have continued playing in the game but reached the 30-snap limit that was set for him beforehand.
McCarthy is scheduled to undergo a knee examination, and there are reports suggesting that he may not travel to Cleveland for joint practices depending on the severity of the knee soreness.
Due to his condition, McCarthy will not be participating in Monday’s practice in front of fans. O’Connell had initially planned to give McCarthy more playing time with the starters both during Monday’s practice and in the joint practices in Cleveland. However, the knee soreness now raises some uncertainty about those plans.
Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell said that J.J. McCarthy could’ve continued playing Saturday. He reached the 30-snap rep number. McCarthy came in today with what KOC called “routine soreness … it was something we want to be smart about.”
