To make room for Marte, the Mets designated outfielder Ben Gamel for assignment.
During his time on the injured list, Marte had a productive season, hitting .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs, 30 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases in 66 games. His return is expected to bolster the Mets’ outfield, which has relied on players like Brandon Nimmo, Harrison Bader, and Jesse Winker in recent games.
Winker, acquired via trade, has struggled since joining the Mets, batting .289/.319/.333 in 14 games compared to his .257/.374/.419 performance with the Nationals earlier in the season. On the other hand, Gamel, who made 18 appearances with the Mets, hit .217/.400/.261 with one RBI and one stolen base.
With a record of 64-59, the Mets are currently nine games behind in the NL East and one game out of the NL wild-card race. They are set to face the Miami Marlins before hosting the Baltimore Orioles in a three-game series.
