The tennis community is in uproar over Jannik Sinner’s recent controversy.

Just two months ago, Sinner made history by claiming the No. 1 spot in the ATP world rankings, surpassing Novak Djokovic. The Italian sensation has been on a meteoric rise in the tennis world, winning five titles this season, including his first grand slam at the Australian Open in January.

Despite his recent success, Sinner’s reputation has been tarnished after it was revealed that he failed two drug tests earlier this year. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) decided not to suspend him, causing outrage among his fellow players.

Canadian player Denis Shapovalov and Australian Nick Kyrgios took to social media to express their disappointment with the decision, questioning the fairness of the outcome.

Different rules for different players

Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah nice 🙄 https://t.co/13qR0F9nH2

While Sinner will face consequences for his actions, the decision not to suspend him has sparked controversy within the tennis world.

Although he avoided suspension, Sinner will have to forfeit the ranking points and prize money earned at the tournament where the first test occurred.

In a statement, Sinner expressed his regret over the incident and pledged to comply with anti-doping regulations moving forward.

What is Clostebol?

Clostebol acetate is a banned synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid that is similar to testosterone. It is used in medical treatments for various conditions but is prohibited by anti-doping agencies.

MLB player Fernando Tatis Jr. previously tested positive for Clostebol, resulting in an 80-game suspension.

Why was Jannik Sinner not suspended?

The ITIA decided not to suspend Sinner after determining that there was no fault or negligence on his part. The organization accepted his explanation regarding the inadvertent use of the banned substance.

Despite the lack of suspension, Sinner will have to face the consequences of forfeiting his tournament earnings and ranking points. The ATP acknowledged the decision and emphasized the importance of integrity in the sport.
