Boston Red Sox Outfielder Suspended for Using Homophobic Slur
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been having a standout season, hitting .291 with an .853 OPS, 14 home runs, 36 doubles, 13 triples, 58 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases. He was also named All-Star MVP and played in every game of the season so far.
However, Duran’s streak came to an end as the Red Sox announced his suspension for using a homophobic slur during a game against the Houston Astros. The team issued a statement on social media, revealing a two-game unpaid suspension for Duran, with his salary from the suspension being donated to PFLAG.
In his apology, Duran acknowledged his mistake and expressed remorse for his actions, vowing to educate himself and grow from the experience. Ironically, he had just received the team’s “Heart & Hustle Award” for embodying the values of the game.
