The New York Yankees have brought up outfielder Jasson Domínguez as their 27th player for the Sunday night Little League Classic against the Detroit Tigers. He will be starting in left field and batting fifth, marking his first MLB action since last September.
According to MLB rules, Domínguez will have to return to the minors after the game, but he remains eligible to be called up to the active roster at any time.
Domínguez, 21, played eight games in late 2023 before undergoing Tommy John surgery due to an elbow injury. He posted a .258/.303/.677 (158 OPS+) with four home runs, seven RBIs, and a stolen base. Since returning in May 2024, he has played in 40 games across three levels, hitting .298/.365/.477. Yankees GM Brian Cashman explained the challenges Domínguez faces in cracking the active roster.
“He’s healthy. The injuries this year limited his playing time,” Cashman said during a recent radio appearance. “He’s versatile, mostly playing in centerfield but we’re looking to shift him to left. He’s waiting for his chance, ready to step up if needed. He’s a valuable asset to have on standby. Right now, there’s no clear path for him, but he’s prepared for his opportunity.”
The Yankees currently lead the AL East by one game over the Baltimore Orioles.
