If Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Chicago Cubs hits the ball into play, opposing teams must act quickly to get an out or return the ball to the infield. Otherwise, Crow-Armstrong’s speed could lead him to score easily.
This scenario unfolded in a recent game against the Miami Marlins. In the third inning, Crow-Armstrong hit a deep ball to right field, and Marlins right fielder Jesús Sánchez missed the catch. The ball bounced off the wall, rolled back onto the field, and Crow-Armstrong took advantage of the situation.
As Sánchez retrieved the ball and relayed it back to the infield, Crow-Armstrong sprinted around the bases. By the time the ball reached home plate, Crow-Armstrong had already completed an inside-the-park home run, sliding in safely.
According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, Crow-Armstrong’s sprint around the bases in 14.08 seconds was the fastest recorded this season and the quickest by a Cubs player since Statcast began tracking player movements in 2015.
PETE CROW-ARMSTRONG!
14.08 seconds home-to-home
That’s the fastest home-to-home of the season and the fastest for the Cubs under Statcast (2015) https://t.co/BUQ46qNfu8

Considering his remarkable feat, Crow-Armstrong’s base run was the third-fastest in MLB since Statcast’s inception, as noted by Langs. This exceptional display of speed and agility could make for an exciting competition during MLB All-Star Weekend.
