US Open: Novak Djokovic starts title defense with dominant win as he eyes 25th Grand Slam championship

Novak Djokovic is on a mission to secure his 25th Grand Slam title, a record-breaking achievement in the world of tennis.

The Serbian superstar started his US Open campaign in impressive fashion, breezing past Radu Albot of Moldova in straight sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Djokovic’s victory extended his remarkable streak of 71 consecutive first-round wins at major championships and maintained his flawless record of 18-0 in the first round at the US Open.

Fresh off his gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which he described as the pinnacle of his career, Djokovic showed no signs of slowing down. He dominated the first two sets against Albot, winning four straight games in each to assert his dominance on the court.

Although Albot managed to grab a lead in the third set, Djokovic swiftly regained control and closed out the match in just over two hours. This victory comes after a challenging year for Djokovic, who faced injury setbacks earlier in the season but bounced back with a strong performance at Wimbledon and the Olympics.

With a potential 25th Grand Slam title within reach, Djokovic is poised to make history once again. A win at the US Open would solidify his status as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, surpassing Margaret Court’s record and cementing his legacy in the sport.

Next up, Djokovic will face off against compatriot Laslo Djere in the second round, setting the stage for another thrilling match on his quest for tennis immortality.
