Khalil Rountree has successfully resolved his recent drug-test suspension.
During a Nevada Athletic Commission meeting on Thursday, it was determined that Rountree’s suspension has been set at 4 1⁄2 months, starting from the date of the failed drug test that led to his withdrawal from a fight against Jamahal Hill at UFC 303 in June. This decision clears Rountree to compete in his upcoming title bout against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira at UFC 307 on October 5.
Rountree voluntarily disclosed his failed test for Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a steroid hormone, attributing it to a mix-up by a supplement service he was using. He stated that the service inadvertently provided him with a supplement containing the banned substance.
Aside from the suspension, which ends on September 18, Rountree has been ordered to pay prosecution fees amounting to $157. The commission acknowledged Rountree’s transparency in reporting the issue as a factor in the leniency of his penalty.
Rountree participated in the NAC meeting and expressed his appreciation for the fair handling of his case.
The highly anticipated Pereira vs. Rountree matchup will headline UFC 307 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Pereira aims for his third title defense, while Rountree enters the fight riding a remarkable five-fight winning streak.
