Emma Navarro has once again emerged victorious.

Navarro showcased her skills on Sunday afternoon, capitalizing on Coco Gauff’s struggles to defeat the reigning US Open champion at Arthur Ashe Stadium. In a closely contested fourth-round match, Navarro triumphed over Gauff with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, securing a spot in the quarterfinals for the first time in her career and matching her best Grand Slam finish.

Reflecting on her achievement, Navarro expressed her elation, stating, “It’s pretty surreal. After being eliminated in the first round for the past two years, reaching the quarterfinals feels incredible. Playing in the city where I was born makes this moment even more special.”

Despite the intense competition, Navarro maintained her composure and seized the lead by clinching the first set decisively. Building on her momentum, she surged ahead in the second set, eventually claiming a crucial break to edge closer to a quarterfinal berth.

However, Gauff staged a remarkable comeback, leveling the match by capitalizing on Navarro’s errors and forcing a third set. Undeterred, Navarro regained control early in the final set, capitalizing on Gauff’s mistakes to secure a lead and eventually seal the victory.

Throughout the match, Gauff struggled with double faults, committing a total of 19, including 11 in the final set. Additionally, she amassed 60 unforced errors, further highlighting Navarro’s strategic gameplay and resilience.

Notably, Navarro had previously defeated Gauff at Wimbledon earlier in the summer, underscoring her consistency and competitive prowess. Looking ahead, Navarro is set to face Spain’s Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals, following Badosa’s commanding victory over China’s Yafan Wang.
