While Popyrin had the crowd support in his previous match against Djokovic, Tiafoe had the home crowd advantage this time around.
Despite facing early pressure, Tiafoe managed to break Popyrin’s serve in the first set and eventually claimed it 6-4.
In the second set, Popyrin fought back from a break down to take a commanding lead before faltering in the tiebreak, which Tiafoe won 7-3.
Although Popyrin forced a third set by dominating Tiafoe, the American rallied in the fourth set to secure the victory.
While Tiafoe reached the semi-finals in 2022, he was ultimately defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller.
