The wide receiver group of the Pittsburgh Steelers has been a topic of debate, with many considering it one of the weakest in the NFL. The current lineup includes George Pickens, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson, and Scotty Miller.
There were hopes of adding Brandon Aiyuk to the mix, but after negotiations fell through, Aiyuk decided to stay with the San Francisco 49ers.
Aiyuk and the 49ers reached an agreement on a lucrative contract extension, putting an end to the Steelers’ pursuit of the star receiver.
This turn of events now puts the spotlight on Steelers GM Omar Khan.
Khan had pinned all his hopes on acquiring Aiyuk, overlooking other potential options like Jahan Dotson, Noah Brown, and Tim Patrick. While his determination is commendable, it ultimately left the Steelers empty-handed.
Now, the Steelers must regroup and consider other options, such as reaching out to the Houston Texans for John Metchie or pursuing Treylon Burks from the Tennessee Titans.
Despite Khan’s overall successful offseason, the failure to secure Aiyuk stands out as a significant setback for the Steelers.
