McDaniel was initially hired by the Dolphins in the 2022 NFL offseason with a four-year contract that was set to expire after the 2026 season. Since then, he has proven himself as one of the league’s most promising young head coaches, achieving a 20-14 record over his first two seasons in South Florida. Despite not winning a playoff game yet, he led the Dolphins to consecutive playoff appearances, a feat not seen since Dave Wannstedt in 2000 and 2001.
Known for his offensive prowess, McDaniel has fulfilled his promise to bring a high-flying offense back to Miami. The Dolphins ranked No. 6 in total yards and No. 11 in points in 2022, improving to No. 1 in yards and No. 2 in points in 2023.
McDaniel has also significantly improved quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s performance, who struggled under previous head coach Brian Flores.

• 23 games played
• 449/678 (66%)
• 4,467 passing yards
• 27 passing TD’s
• 15 INT’s
• 50.3 average QBRTua Tagovailoa under Mike McDaniel (2022, 2023):

The extension solidifies McDaniel’s commitment to the Dolphins through 2028, showcasing the trust that owner Stephen Ross and general manager Chris Grier have in him.
