For the first time since 2003, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have not been shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or.

Despite leading Argentina to victory in the Copa America and being in top form for Al Nassr, Messi and Ronaldo were not among the 30 nominees this year.

This absence marks a significant shift in world football, with both players now in their late thirties.

Young talents like Vinicius Jnr and Jude Bellingham are now frontrunners for the prestigious award, with Vinicius playing a key role in Real Madrid’s successful season.

Manchester City’s Rodri is also a strong contender after his impressive performances in the Premier League and the European Championship.

Spain and England have multiple nominees, showcasing the depth of talent in both national teams.

While Messi may have been left out, his Argentina teammates Emiliano Martinez and Lautaro Martinez were recognized for their contributions to the Copa America victory.

Other standout players on the shortlist include Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Granit Xhaka, and the retired Toni Kroos.
