NBA free agency: Evan Fournier leaving league after 12 seasons to sign with Olympiacos, per report

Evan Fournier, a veteran guard with 12 seasons in the NBA, has made the decision to leave the league and join Olympiacos, a prominent Greek basketball team. According to Shams Charania, Fournier’s contract with the 14-time Greek champions is valued at $4 million over a two-year period.

After being traded from the New York Knicks to the Detroit Pistons in February as part of the Bojan Bogdanovic deal, Fournier played 29 games with the Pistons. The team opted not to exercise the $19 million team option on his contract for the 2024-25 season, making him a free agent.

Approaching his 32nd birthday next month, it seems likely that Fournier has reached the end of his NBA career. Drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 2012, he has played for five different teams during his time in the league.

Fournier made a name for himself with the Orlando Magic, where he became a reliable scorer on the perimeter. He averaged at least 15 points per game for six consecutive seasons and reached a career-high of 18.5 points per game in the shortened 2019-20 season. He also helped the Magic reach the playoffs in consecutive seasons, although they were eliminated in the first round both times.

Following his time in Orlando, Fournier was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2021, but his stint with the team was short-lived. He was then traded to the New York Knicks, where he set a single-season record for 3-pointers with 241, a record that has since been broken.

Though his time in New York ended on a less successful note, Fournier has been a key player for the French national team in recent years. He contributed to their silver medal wins at the 2020 and 2024 Olympics, averaging 9.8 points and 2.2 assists in the 2024 games held in Paris.

Despite his success on the international stage, Fournier’s NBA career seems to have come to a close as he embarks on a new chapter with Olympiacos in Greece.
