Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from international football effective immediately.

The 33-year-old had a remarkable career with the French national team, earning 137 caps and scoring 44 goals. He played a pivotal role in France’s World Cup victory in 2018 and their runner-up finish in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In a heartfelt message on X, Griezmann expressed his gratitude for his time with the national team, saying: “It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure and see you soon.”

Griezmann initially made his mark on the international stage during Euro 2016, where he was named the tournament’s best player and won the Golden Boot. He continued to excel in subsequent tournaments, including playing a key role in France’s World Cup victory in 2018.

Despite some ups and downs, Griezmann remained a consistent performer for France, setting a world record by appearing in 84 consecutive games for his country.

However, his form dipped during Euro 2024, leading to his exclusion from crucial matches and raising questions about his relationship with manager Didier Deschamps.
