Munoz, 34, recently secured a win in his last fight against Carl Deaton III at a UFC APEX event on July 15, 2023. This victory came after two consecutive losses to Luis Pena and Nasrat Haqparast.
After expressing his gratitude to UFC officials, Munoz explained the reasons behind his retirement.
“Over the past six years, I’ve faced numerous injuries that have tested my resilience both mentally and physically,” Munoz stated. “These injuries included two knee reconstructions, a torn PCL, a tear in my elbow, a separated AC joint, and a torn lat muscle, among others.”
“Despite these challenges, I persevered and fought through the pain to secure a win. However, additional knee injuries sustained during training ultimately led me to this decision.”
While Munoz did not confirm his retirement from the sport, his extensive injuries and plans to start a family suggest that he will not be returning to the cage.
Munoz concluded his statement by expressing his desire to make way for new talent in the UFC.
“It is with a heavy heart that I step away from the UFC roster. I want to give other fighters the opportunity to shine while I focus on a healthy future with my family.”
In addition to his UFC career, Munoz is best known for his victory over Nick Newell in the 2018 Contender Series. He holds a professional record of 7-2.
