Lothar Matthaus believes that Jurgen Klopp has the freedom to choose his next career move, following criticism for accepting a new position at Red Bull.

The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager has been appointed as the head of global soccer for the Austrian drinks company, sparking mixed reactions in Germany, especially among Dortmund supporters who have reservations about Red Bull’s ownership model.

Klopp, who achieved significant success during his time at Borussia Dortmund, is embarking on a new challenge with Red Bull, a decision that has garnered support from Matthaus.

Matthaus expressed his thoughts on the matter, stating, “Red Bull sees the potential in Jurgen Klopp, and I believe it’s a good fit. Klopp will receive full backing from the organization, and I am eager to see the impact he will have in his new role.”

Regarding Klopp’s departure from coaching, Matthaus commented, “It’s important for individuals to pursue what excites them and presents a new challenge. Jurgen Klopp is entering uncharted territory with Red Bull, just as he did with Liverpool, and I respect his decision.”

He further added, “Criticism aside, we should all embrace new opportunities. Jurgen Klopp has the talent to excel in any environment he chooses. As long as he remains involved in football, his influence will continue to be felt.”

Reflecting on Red Bull’s achievements in various football clubs, Matthaus highlighted their success and expressed confidence in Klopp’s ability to contribute to the company’s ambitious goals.

Klopp’s unexpected shift to a non-coaching role comes shortly after his departure from Liverpool, where he had initially planned to take a break from the game. However, his swift transition to Red Bull has sparked speculation about his potential future involvement with the German national team.
