Arsenal Women’s head coach, Jonas Eidevall, has decided to step down from his position due to the club’s disappointing start to the season.

During his tenure at the Emirates, the Swedish coach led the team to two League Cup victories over the past three years.

Following recent defeats to Bayern Munich in the Champions League and Chelsea in the WSL, Eidevall faced criticism which ultimately led to his resignation this morning.

Assistant coach Renee Slegers will temporarily take charge of the team.

Speaking on Eidevall’s departure, Arsenal sporting director Edu expressed gratitude for his contributions and achievements at the club since 2021.

Plans are underway to appoint a new head coach while supporting Slegers in her interim role.

Caldentey joined from Barcelona

In recent months, Arsenal made significant signings, including Spanish World Cup winner Mariona Caldentey from Barcelona.

Despite the additions to the squad, which includes notable players like Leah Williamson and Beth Mead, Arsenal has failed to meet expectations, especially in the recent defeat to Chelsea.

Their performances in the Champions League have also been underwhelming.

Although Eidevall’s team made it to the Group phase, they struggled to overcome Hacken in the earlier rounds.
