Mikel Arteta criticized his Arsenal team for lacking “courage” as they surrendered a lead to draw with Premier League rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
Arsenal went ahead twice against Liverpool, with goals from Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino, but Mohamed Salah’s late equalizer meant the match ended in a draw.
Despite welcoming back some key players from injury, Arsenal had to cope without others like William Saliba and Riccardo Calafiori, who were unavailable.
Injuries forced substitutions during the game, with Gabriel Magalhaes and Jakub Kiwior both having to be replaced, while young Myles Lewis-Skelly made a late appearance.
Arteta praised his team’s performance but lamented their lack of courage in the second half, stating, “We deserved to win the game. We were the better team.”
He emphasized the need for better decision-making in key moments and highlighted missed opportunities to score.
Arteta also praised his team’s determination and aggression on the pitch, calling for more courage in their playing style.
Despite the draw, Arsenal remain in contention at the top of the Premier League table, trailing behind leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.
