How Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto proved himself as one of baseball’s best pitchers in World Series debut

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Yamamoto Shines in World Series Debut

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto impressed in his first career World Series start in Game 2 against the New York Yankees. He pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on a hit and two walks while striking out four, including Aaron Judge twice.

This performance solidified Yamamoto’s status as one of the top pitchers in the world and justified the Dodgers’ decision to sign him to a $325 million contract. Despite being limited by injuries this season, the 26-year-old showcased his talent with a 3.00 ERA and 4.77 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Yamamoto’s fastball-splitter combination proved to be effective, generating 12 swinging strikes in Game 2. His high-spin curveball was also a key weapon, recording more than 33% whiffs during the regular season.

One of the most surprising aspects of Yamamoto’s outing was his ability to pitch into the seventh inning, something he hadn’t done since June before his injury. If Game 2 was his final start of the year, it was certainly a memorable one.

Looking ahead, the Dodgers hope that Yamamoto has one more outstanding performance in him, potentially leading them to a World Series championship in 2024.
