World Series 2024: Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman lead the way as Dodgers remind everyone how exhausting their lineup can be

In Game 3 of the World Series, Shohei Ohtani struggled following his shoulder injury in Game 2, but the Dodgers still managed to secure a 4-2 victory over the Yankees in the Bronx. Walker Buehler delivered a stellar start, while timely hits from Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman proved to be crucial. The win gave the Dodgers a commanding 3-0 series lead.

Despite only scoring four runs on five hits, the Dodgers’ offense proved challenging for the Yankees’ starting pitcher, Clarke Schmidt. Ohtani’s presence in the lineup was a constant threat, as seen when Schmidt walked him on four pitches to start the game.

Freeman, who hit a home run in Game 2, continued his strong performance by hitting a two-run homer early in Game 3. Betts also contributed with an RBI single in the third inning, showcasing his exceptional contact skills.

Betts’ defensive prowess was also on display when he made a diving catch in right field, preventing a potential run-scoring hit from Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Overall, the Dodgers’ performance in Game 3 highlighted their ability to grind out at-bats and make key plays in crucial moments. Betts, in particular, stood out with his offensive and defensive contributions, solidifying his reputation as one of the game’s elite players.

It’s unfair to judge the superstar based on a small sample size, but his lack of impact in the past two Octobers has been a point of concern. However, in the current World Series run, Mookie Betts is reminding everyone of his stellar performance in 2020 when the Dodgers clinched their first championship in over three decades. Despite not being in the spotlight for individual postseason awards this time around, Betts’ consistent contributions on both offense and defense have been instrumental in bringing the Dodgers to the brink of another title.

Freddie Freeman, who has been a standout performer in the World Series, acknowledges Betts’ importance to the team, describing him as one of the best players of all time. Betts embraced the high expectations set for the 2024 Dodgers from the start, declaring that it was “World Series or nothing.” Despite facing challenges throughout the season, the Dodgers now find themselves on the verge of sweeping the American League’s best team and fulfilling their championship aspirations.

For Betts and Freeman, individual accolades pale in comparison to the ultimate goal of winning the World Series trophy. As the Dodgers look to secure their fourth victory, both players are focused on the collective success of the team above all else.
