James Llontop has been announced as the replacement to face Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 309 on Nov. 16, according to a report by Te La Canté MMA. The event will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Llontop will be stepping in for Charlie Campbell, who withdrew from the card for undisclosed reasons six days ago.
Ruffy, with a record of 10-1, gained attention in the lightweight division with a spectacular knockout victory over Jamie Mullarkey in his UFC debut in May. He earned a performance bonus at UFC 301 and previously earned his spot in the UFC by defeating Raimond Magomedaliev at Dana White’s Contender Series.
Llontop, with a record of 14-4, is also a DWCS alumni. He has faced challenges in the UFC, coming in overweight for his debut and suffering losses to Chris Padilla and Viacheslav Borshchev. He will be looking to secure his first win in the promotion at UFC 309.
The main event at UFC 309 will feature Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title, with Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler as the co-main event.
