Manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that his team is still in a phase of growth as Tottenham overcame Manchester City to advance to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
First-half goals from Timo Werner and Pape Sarr secured a 2-1 victory for Postecoglou’s team in an exciting and open match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Matheus Nunes scored a goal for City just before halftime, but the hosts held on in the second half despite missing chances to extend their lead.
Postecoglou praised his players for their performance, stating, “We’re a team that’s evolving and developing, and hopefully, we have more good days ahead of us.”

Postecoglou expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance against a tough opponent, emphasizing the importance of doing everything well in a cup tie.
He noted, “We didn’t give them too many clear-cut chances. We certainly had a few ourselves that we could have put the game away.”
Despite acknowledging that his team is still developing, Postecoglou sees positive signs for the future, stating, “This team is growing all the time.”
He added, “Sometimes you’re going to stumble, but we’ll always bounce back and put on a good show.”
Postecoglou also praised striker Timo Werner for his goal, hoping it boosts his confidence.

Despite the defeat, Pep Guardiola praised his team’s performance as “exceptional” considering the injuries they are facing.
He acknowledged the efforts of the young players and expressed satisfaction with their performance.
Guardiola shrugged off any complaints about the injury situation, stating, “It is what it is, it’s normal.”
Both Manuel Akanji and Savinho picked up knocks during the match, adding to City’s injury concerns.
