76ers injury updates: Joel Embiid, Paul George still don’t have timelines for season debut

The Philadelphia 76ers have been tight-lipped about the status of Joel Embiid and Paul George. Both stars have been sidelined since the start of the regular season, with Embiid undergoing treatment for his left knee. It’s unclear when they will return, but they are expected to miss the upcoming game against the Detroit Pistons. They will be reevaluated later this week, according to ESPN.

Embiid, who suffered a meniscus tear last season, returned in time for the playoffs but reaggravated his knee. Despite participating in the Olympics and winning a gold medal, he has been dealing with ongoing knee issues. He has expressed his desire to prioritize his health and avoid playing back-to-back games in the future to ensure his availability for the postseason.

On the other hand, George is recovering from a hyperextended knee sustained during the preseason and has yet to be cleared to play. While it’s not a serious injury, his absence has raised questions, especially with the NBA investigating the Sixers’ handling of the situation. With the league’s new player participation policy in place, there is scrutiny on whether Embiid’s absence is truly due to injury or a strategic move by the team.

Given Embiid’s injury history, the Sixers are taking a cautious approach with him. However, his active participation in the Olympics without any reported issues raises concerns about his current status. Updates on both Embiid and George’s availability are expected later this week, but it’s possible they may not return until the second week of November.
