Arsenal star issues rallying cry after ‘deserved’ Newcastle defeat

Arsenal centre-back William Saliba emphasizes the importance of unity among teammates to bounce back from their recent loss against Newcastle United.

The Gunners were defeated 1-0 at St James’ Park by Alexander Isak’s first-half header, struggling against a determined Magpies side that has now climbed into the top half of the Premier League table.

Without captain Martin Odegaard, Arsenal lacked creativity in midfield and failed to generate ideas as Newcastle contained the threat posed by Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Manager Mikel Arteta admitted the team’s performance did not merit a positive result, a sentiment echoed by Saliba, who watched as Isak scored a powerful header in the 12th minute.

“We are disappointed because we aimed to win today,” Saliba told TNT Sports. “Unfortunately, we fell short and did not execute our game plan. I believe we deserved to lose.”

“We did not perform as intended, and they were also strong. Today, victory was not within our grasp. However, we will focus on the upcoming week.”

Anthony Gordon’s role in Newcastle’s goal was commended for delivering a precise cross to Isak, although concerns were raised about the defensive lapses that allowed the Swede to score.

Saliba acknowledged Arsenal’s room for improvement and urged his colleagues to unite in pursuit of better results in upcoming matches.

“It was a well-executed goal, but we can always strive for more. They scored early, and we aimed to equalize,” he stated.

“We must stay united; last season, we faced a similar setback but rallied together with confidence. We believe we can turn things around. We need to improve from our last performance. I was not at my best, so I must elevate my game. I need to return to peak form.”

Arsenal currently hold a top-four spot in the Premier League but trail leaders Liverpool by seven points after Liverpool’s comeback win against Brighton & Hove Albion. Defending champions Manchester City suffered a surprising defeat to an improving Bournemouth side.
