Jon Jones had a mere six fights under his belt before signing with the UFC, but one of those bouts was against an opponent who would later join him in the promotion.
In 2008, just before his UFC debut, Jones faced Parker Porter in a light heavyweight showdown at World Championship Fighting. This fight, which lasted only 36 seconds, showcased Jones’ dominance and served as part of his UFC audition tape.
Although Jones is now the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Porter primarily competed in the heavyweight division throughout his career, despite fighting at 205 pounds back then. Jones secured a decisive victory over Porter and then triumphed over Moyses Gabin in his final pre-UFC fight.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Never-before-seen footage of Jones’ early fights has been unveiled ahead of UFC 309, where he will face Stipe Miocic in the main event after a year-long hiatus.
Witness Jones’ early career and how he transitioned from a perfect 6-0 record to UFC stardom, solidifying his status as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history.
