Inter Miami head coach Tata Martino reportedly leaving team due to personal reasons

Inter Miami has announced that Gerardo “Tata” Martino is stepping down as head coach with immediate effect due to personal reasons, as reported by multiple sources. The club is set to hold a news conference on Friday, according to Gastón Edul of TyC Sports.

During Martino’s tenure, Inter Miami achieved a record-breaking regular season in 2024, clinching the Supporters’ Shield with 74 points. However, their playoff journey ended abruptly with a first-round exit at the hands of Atlanta United.

Martino took charge of Inter Miami in June 2023 and played a pivotal role in the recruitment of superstar Lionel Messi and other standout players to strengthen the squad. The team welcomed Messi’s former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez, alongside promising young talents.

Prior to his time at Inter Miami, Martino had successful stints at Barcelona and the Argentina national team. He led Atlanta to an MLS Cup triumph in 2018, earning him the MLS Coach of the Year accolade.

Martino’s departure signifies a significant transition for Inter Miami, who will now be tasked with finding a new head coach ahead of the 2025 season. The upcoming year promises to be eventful for the club as they prepare to compete in both the 2025 MLS season and the FIFA Club World Cup following their controversial qualification through the 2024 regular season title.
