Tiger Woods’ comeback to the golf scene will be delayed, as the 15-time major champion recently announced that he will not be participating in the Hero World Challenge, an event he hosts annually in the Bahamas.
Expressing his disappointment on Twitter, Woods stated, “I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week with @HeroMotoCorp.” Woods also mentioned that Justin Thomas, Jason Day, and Nick Dunlap, who won a PGA Tour event as an amateur earlier this year, will be part of the tournament.
In 2024, Woods only competed in five events, including the Genesis Invitational from which he withdrew, and the four major championships. His performance in the majors was below par, with a solo 60th finish at the Masters and missed cuts in the subsequent three majors.
Having undergone back surgery in September to address nerve pain, Woods has not been actively playing golf for several months. Despite the lack of a defined recovery timeline, he remains optimistic about the procedure’s success in alleviating his back issues.
This year marked the first time since 2020 that Woods participated in all available majors in a season, following a serious car accident in February 2021. Despite calls for retirement from some quarters of the golf community, Woods maintains his desire to continue playing golf as long as he can.
Aside from his professional golf career, Woods is involved in the development of TGL, an indoor golf league set to launch in January. While he is a member of one of the teams, Woods has not confirmed whether he will compete in the league.
