The New York Mets have reportedly bolstered their pitching rotation with the addition of right-hander Frankie Montas. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Montas has signed a two-year, $34 million deal with the Mets, with a player option for the 2025 season.

Montas, who split time between the Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers last season, posted a 4.84 ERA with 148 strikeouts in nearly 151 innings pitched. He went 7-11 in 30 starts, including a 3-3 record with the Brewers. Despite making the playoffs, the Brewers were eliminated in the wild-card round.

At 31 years old, Montas will join Kodai Senga and David Peterson in the Mets’ rotation, following the departure of several key starters in free agency. The Mets are also rumored to be pursuing star outfielder Juan Soto in the offseason.

While Montas may not be a consistent frontline starter, he is expected to provide valuable depth to the Mets’ rotation. The team is also looking to make additional moves in the bullpen and has already slashed $150 million off their payroll from last season, the highest in the league.

Overall, Montas’ addition to the Mets’ pitching staff is seen as a positive step towards building a competitive team for the upcoming season.
