Juan Soto reportedly has multiple offers of at least $600 million, could make decision by end of week

There is a lot of buzz surrounding Juan Soto this MLB offseason, with the free-agent slugger expected to make a decision on his next team soon.

Super-agent Scott Boras indicated that Soto is in the final stages of his free agency process and has started to narrow down his options. Speaking to reporters, Boras mentioned that Soto is carefully considering his choices and eliminating teams from contention. While Boras hinted that a decision may not be imminent, reports suggest that Soto could announce his new team before the start of the MLB winter meetings in Dallas.

According to The Athletic, Soto has received offers of at least $600 million from all the teams still in the running, including the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays. It is anticipated that Soto will make his decision during the winter meetings.

While $600 million seems to be the minimum amount Soto could command, the big question remains: will he surpass Shohei Ohtani’s record-breaking $700 million contract?

Will Juan Soto top Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million?

Shohei Ohtani’s historic 10-year, $700 million deal is still the largest contract in sports history.

Although Soto is not expected to match Ohtani’s average annual value, his total contract value could potentially exceed Ohtani’s when adjusted for inflation. While the possibility of a $700 million deal for Soto exists, it remains a significant financial milestone to reach.

Factors such as Soto’s age, potential deferrals, and opt-out clauses will play a crucial role in determining the final contract amount. Unlike Ohtani, who benefits from lucrative Japanese advertising deals, Soto’s economic advantages are more limited. However, being the center of attention in a bidding war among top MLB teams is a testament to Soto’s talent and market value.

As the baseball world eagerly awaits Soto’s decision, it is clear that he is in a position to secure a historic contract and potentially set a new benchmark in the realm of sports contracts.
