Brighton has reached an agreement to bring on board Paraguay’s rising star, Diego Gomez, from MLS outfit Inter Miami in the upcoming month.

The 21-year-old midfielder is set to make his debut for the Premier League side on January 1, coinciding with the opening of the transfer window.

Gomez made the switch to Inter Miami in July 2023, where he showcased his skills in 28 matches this season, netting six goals to help secure a spot in the Club World Cup next summer.

Additionally, the young talent represented Paraguay in the Paris Olympics, aiding the team in reaching the quarter-finals before suffering a loss to Egypt in a penalty shootout.

Speaking on the impending arrival of Gomez, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed his excitement, stating, “We eagerly anticipate Diego’s arrival. His impact both domestically and on the international stage has been remarkable.”

He further added, “As is customary for young overseas recruits, Diego will require an adjustment period to adapt to the demands of the Premier League. However, I believe he possesses the potential to make a significant contribution, and I am eager to begin working with him.”

Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, praised Gomez’s abilities, describing him as a dynamic midfielder capable of not only scoring goals but also providing crucial assists.

“Having recently concluded his MLS campaign, we are confident that Diego will be well-prepared to compete for a spot in the squad upon his arrival next month,” Weir noted.
