Ryan Garcia’s upcoming exhibition bout in 2024 has been postponed

The organization FANMIO, in partnership with RIZIN, announced that Ryan Garcia’s exhibition boxing match against Rukiya Anpo has been postponed due to a wrist injury sustained during training camp. The new date for the bout is set for 2025.

Garcia expressed his disappointment in the delay, stating, “This is only a temporary setback, and I sincerely apologize to my fans, FANMIO, RIZIN, and Anpo for the delay.”

The controversy surrounding the bout escalated when Garcia’s boss, Oscar De La Hoya, initially did not approve of the exhibition match. However, RIZIN president Nobuyuki Sakakibara remains confident that the bout will proceed as planned.

Anpo’s absence from a press conference in Tokyo further fueled the drama, with Anpo admitting to oversleeping and expressing his lack of respect for Garcia.

In response to Garcia’s injury, Anpo stated, “I wish him a speedy recovery and hope I can face the 100 percent version of Ryan Garcia.”

Garcia’s involvement in the exhibition match comes amidst a suspension in the U.S. for a failed drug test linked to his previous bout against Devin Haney. Despite initially winning the match, it was later overturned to a no-contest due to the test results.
