With the addition of Walker Buehler, the Boston Red Sox are starting to look like 2025 contenders

The Boston Red Sox entered this winter with a sense of urgency to make impactful moves after a disappointing end to the 2024 season. With the Yankees making significant changes following Juan Soto’s departure, it was crucial for Boston to not remain inactive through another offseason.

Fortunately, the Red Sox have been gradually putting together a strong offseason, showing their determination to return to the postseason in 2025.

One of the major areas of focus for the Red Sox has been their pitching rotation, which has undergone a significant overhaul. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow prioritized adding starting pitchers, leading to the acquisition of Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. Additionally, left-hander Patrick Sandoval and right-hander Walker Buehler have been added to strengthen the rotation, with Buehler bringing valuable postseason experience to the team.

Despite receiving multiple offers, Buehler chose to join the Red Sox on a one-year deal, highlighting the appeal of playing for such a storied franchise.

With the pitching rotation taking shape, the Red Sox now turn their focus to acquiring a right-handed bat to complete their lineup. Players like Teoscar Hernández, Anthony Santander, and Alex Bregman are still available, with Bregman being a particularly enticing option for Boston.

Bregman’s versatility in playing second or third base would provide the Red Sox with flexibility in their infield alignment, potentially allowing them to maximize their offensive potential.

Overall, the Red Sox have made significant strides this offseason, positioning themselves as contenders in the American League. With a few more key moves, Boston could see a substantial improvement in their standings for the upcoming season.
