Welcome, basketball fans! With the start of 2025 upon us, I have compiled 10 daring predictions for the remainder of the NBA season. Despite my usual realistic approach, the landscape of the league with injuries and trade talks has led me to focus on intriguing scenarios that could have an impact on fantasy basketball enthusiasts. Let’s dive in!

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is poised to finish as the top player in 9-cat leagues

While facing tough competition from Nikola Jokić and Victor Wembanyama, SGA has been displaying MVP-caliber performances in 9-cat leagues over the past month.

During this period, SGA has been averaging an impressive 33.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. Additionally, he has been contributing 2.3 three-pointers, 2.3 steals, 1.3 blocks, and maintaining shooting splits of 57/36/92. With such all-around production and efficiency, he is set to challenge the top spot held by the aforementioned centers for the rest of the season.

The Cavaliers are on track to win 70 games

Despite the incredulity of the statement, the 29-4 Cavaliers are currently on pace to achieve this milestone. Only three teams in NBA history have surpassed the 70-win mark in a regular season. If they continue their impressive run, it will benefit fantasy managers who have Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen on their rosters.

The Warriors make a bold move by acquiring Jimmy Butler

Although Pat Riley is reluctant to part ways with Butler, the looming possibility of losing him for nothing next season may prompt a change of heart. The Warriors could offer a package involving draft picks and young talent to secure the services of the disgruntled star.

Stephen Curry’s need for support is evident, and Butler’s two-way prowess and competitive spirit make him a suitable fit for a win-now mentality like that of Golden State.

Zach LaVine could find himself traded to the Lakers

LaVine’s contract has been a stumbling block for potential suitors, but his impressive performances have garnered interest from specific teams. The Lakers, in particular, could benefit from adding LaVine to provide scoring alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reaves.

A trade package centered around a first-round pick, Gabe Vincent, and Rui Hachimura might be sufficient for the Lakers to secure LaVine if they are serious about competing in the tough Western Conference.

Immanuel Quickley is set to shine as a top-40 player in points leagues

Despite facing setbacks due to injuries, Quickley’s return showcased his scoring, passing, and defensive abilities. His potential breakout was evident before the season began, and his recent performance indicates a promising outlook for fantasy managers.

Whether in points leagues or 9-cat formats, Quickley is expected to deliver on the expectations set by his early draft selection.

The Kings consider transitioning DeMar DeRozan to a bench role

Rumors suggest that the Kings’ coaching staff has contemplated moving DeRozan to a sixth-man position to create more opportunities for former top-five pick Keegan Murray. DeRozan’s arrival has hindered Murray’s development, and a shift to a bench role could benefit the team’s playoff aspirations.

Zion Williamson may struggle to play 20 games for the Pelicans this season

Despite positive reports on Williamson’s recovery, his prolonged absence raises concerns about his availability. Fantasy managers should consider exploring trade options due to his uncertain status and reported disinterest in remaining with the Pelicans.

James Harden is expected to outperform Tyrese Haliburton in 9-cat leagues

While Haliburton currently holds a higher ranking, Harden’s collaboration with Kawhi Leonard could boost his assist rate and efficiency. Despite Haliburton’s respectable performance, questions linger about his ability to replicate his past success, unlike Harden.

Cam Thomas could maintain a 30-point average for the remainder of the season

If Cameron Johnson is traded, Thomas may have the opportunity to increase his scoring output. With a current average of 24.7 points per game, Thomas and D’Angelo Russell could see a surge in shot attempts as the Nets prioritize player development over immediate victories.

The Rockets are poised to make strategic moves

While initially hesitant to make changes, the Rockets’ impressive record and position in the Western Conference standings may prompt them to consider roster adjustments. Acquiring seasoned veterans could further elevate their performance and solidify their playoff contention. Could De’Aaron Fox be on their radar?
