Reds land infielder Gavin Lux in deal with Dodgers

Gavin Lux Traded to Cincinnati

Former Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux is set to join the Cincinnati Reds after a trade deal was struck between the two teams. The Reds announced on Monday that they will acquire Lux in exchange for a future draft pick and outfield prospect Mike Sirota.

“He’s a guy who has a chance to come in and be in our lineup and lengthen that lineup out,” said Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall, via ESPN. “Just us being able to add a left-handed hitter that hits well against right-handed pitching.”

Lux, who had drawn interest from other teams such as the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees, had a successful season with the Dodgers, hitting .251 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI. However, with the Dodgers making other moves in the infield, Lux’s departure became inevitable.

The 27-year-old infielder is set to earn over $2.7 million next season and will become a free agent after the 2026 campaign. Lux will join star Elly De La Cruz in the Reds’ infield, potentially taking over at second base.

The Reds, who missed the playoffs last season, are looking to Lux and De La Cruz to lead them back to postseason success. With new manager Terry Francona at the helm, the Reds hope to make a deep playoff run for the first time in decades.
