Manchester City are continuing their winter spending spree with reports suggesting they are targeting a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.
After a dip in form, the Premier League champions have climbed back to fifth place but still trail Liverpool by 12 points. Their struggles in Europe have also seen them outside the Champions League knockout qualification spots.
To address these challenges, City have been active in the transfer market, signing players like Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Omar Marmoush for significant sums.
The Times reports that City are now looking to add a midfielder to rejuvenate their squad.
City have inquired about re-signing Douglas Luiz from Juventus, but negotiations have hit a snag due to the Serie A side’s demands for a permanent transfer.
Ederson of Atalanta is also a target for City, but Pep Guardiola may opt to test John Stones and Manuel Akanji in midfield before making a decision on further signings.
City is also eyeing Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, but a move for the 24-year-old is likely to be delayed until the summer.
