Novak Djokovic made a surprising exit from the Australian Open after conceding his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev due to injury. Zverev, the No. 2 seed, won a hard-fought first set in a 7–6 tiebreaker lasting one hour and 26 minutes. Djokovic, the No. 7 seed, cited a left leg injury as the reason for his withdrawal.

Zverev will now face defending champion Jannik Sinner in the final. Sinner defeated Ben Shelton in straight sets to advance. Djokovic’s injury, revealed to be a muscle tear, prevented him from continuing the match despite initially appearing to be in control. The Serbian player received mixed reactions from the crowd, including some boos, but he responded with a gesture of appreciation.

In a post-match interview, Zverev urged the crowd not to boo injured players, acknowledging Djokovic’s contributions to the sport over the years. Djokovic, speaking to reporters, expressed disappointment at his inability to continue playing despite his efforts to manage the muscle tear.

The turn of events raises questions about Djokovic’s future in the sport, with the possibility of this being his last Australian Open. Sinner, on the other hand, aims to secure his second consecutive title at the tournament and his third major overall.

Despite the drama surrounding Djokovic’s exit, the Australian Open final promises to be an exciting match between Zverev and Sinner, with both players eager to claim victory.
